My mother used to say, “Shut the door! Were you born in a barn?”
Well, little did she know that one day barn doors would actually be a common
feature in homes. Interior doors are now being hung just like those old barn
door that you see on the exterior of barns – not necessarily an actual rustic
old wooden barn door but they are being installed with the same type of
hardware as used on barns. Pretty cool, huh?
These ‘heavy hardware’ hung doors are now replacing the ‘dated
pocket doors’ of yesteryear. Pocket doors that would slide ‘within’ the wall,
hidden between two layers of drywall. They were a great method (as are Barn
Doors now) to use if your floor space is limited and is not able to accommodate
the swing of a door.
More and more people are investing in decorative designer doors
with pricing reaching the thousands – they have become a work of art within the
home, along with cabinetry and trim work. So why hide all the money and style
between the drywall? Hang them on the ‘outside’ of the wall to enjoy and be
admired 24/7.
So whether it is an authentic old rustic barn door or a newly manufactured glass door; whether your design style is Cottage, Modern or Traditional; whether it’s a pantry door or a bathroom door; barn doors are the Hottest Trend in the Interior Design world today.
