vintage window frame

I probably don’t have to say much more than those three words and your mind starts racing on DIY projects, right? I bet that one out of every two people who are reading this post right now has repurposed vintage window frames. Go ahead, raise your hand if you have... Actually I can’t see your hands raised, so never mind… but thanks for playing. If not, where have you been? These battered wood gems are the best 'new-old' restoration finds for any DIY home decor project. Honest! I have seen them used in home d├ęcor more ways than I can count.

Here are just a few of the great ideas that I found online:

A Map Frame

A glass-paned window is the ideal frame for a vintage map.
Hang it in a kid's room or home office for a splash of color.
Get the tutorial at Charming Zebra.

Wall Art

A new take on the gallery wall: Hang window frames of various shapes, sizes, and colors to instantly brighten up an empty wall.
See more at Apartment Therapy.
I just love a collection of empty frames hung precisely on the wall, don't you?

A Clock Backdrop

This eye-catching fireplace mantle holds a framed analog clock, suspended from a mesh-paned window by a piece of ribbon.
See more at Down to Earth Style.

A Jewelry Organizer

Add chicken wire to an upcycled kitchen cabinet window for a way to easily access earrings, necklaces, and other accessories.
Get the tutorial at The Apron Blog.

Porch Dividers
Add depth and dimension to your porch (without losing any natural light) by hanging several windows frames from small hooks
See more at Apartment Therapy
I actually have this as a divider between my family room and breakfast room area.

A Fairy Garden

Your kids will go crazy for this fairy garden, constructed from an old wooden window.
Get the tutorial at Unskinny Boppy.

A Print Frame

Use a glass-less window as a gorgeous backdrop for unframed prints
Get the tutorial at Faded Charm Cottage.
I love these classic botanical drawings

Hallway Storage

Hang a white window with simple black hooks in a busy hallway as a charming way to store jackets, scarves, and bags.
Get the tutorial at My Pink Life.

A Wreath Frame

Hot-glue green branches to a moss wreath and hang it from an arched window frame for a gorgeous piece of wall art that's begging to be shown off.
Get the tutorial at The Sweet Survival.

A Headboard

Heavy trim, a mirror, and a small ledge work to transform this window into a room-defining headboard.
Get the tutorial at Down to Earth Style.

A Chevron Tray

A bright chevron-striped pattern gives this old window new life as a tray.
Switch the paint shades to match the color scheme of the room you place it in.
Get the tutorial at Eclectically Vintage.

A Monthly Calendar

Use a coat of chalkboard paint to turn a used window into a handy calendar.
Get the tutorial at Thistlewood Farms.

Initial Windowpane

Create personalized wall art by painting an initial or inspirational quote onto a clear windowpane.
See more at Style Me Pretty.

Giant Picture Frame

Place a single blown-up black and white image (or try multiple photos) behind an antique window for a truly unique frame.
Get the tutorial at Milk and Honey Design.
I love this one... might have to try a DIY project soon

marsala

Pantone Color of the Year 2015

Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet  stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.

The Versatility of Marsala

  • Equally appealing to men and women, Marsala is a stirring and flavorful shade for apparel and accessories, one that encourages color creativity and experimentation
  • Flattering against many skin tones, sultry and subtle Marsala is a great go-to color for beauty, providing enormous highlight for the cheek, and a captivating pop of color for nails, shadows lips and hair.
  • Dramatic and at the same time grounding, the rich and full-bodied red-brown Marsala brings color warmth into home interiors
  • An earthy shade with a bit of sophistication, texture is the story in print and packaging. A matte finish highlights Marsala’s organic nature while adding a sheen conveys a completely different message of glamour and luxury.
