I am a huge Downton Abbey fan! (btw -Does anyone
have the real scoop on Season Six being the Final Season?) From the beautiful setting, to the family dynamics to the well written script, I just can’t seem to get enough.
One of the best characters of the show, it’s
impossible to choose only one, is the Dowager Countess of Grantham. *Maggie Smith
is one class act and the perfect choice for this character. The Dowager has gracefully reached
those beautiful ‘golden years’ of life which are rewarded with the privilege of
being able to say what she chooses and it can be present in a way that it is
taken as wisdom. (well ok, to a point... but isn't that what we love the most?)
Her humor and grace are so enjoyable that I
thought I would share this great list compiled by The Huffington Post. Here are just a few of the finest and funniest lines
ever uttered by Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham.
'No one wants to kiss a girl in black.'
'There's nothing simpler than avoiding people you don't like. Avoiding one's friends, that's the real test.'
'It's the job of grandmothers to
interfere.'
'A wonder your halo doesn't grow
heavy, it must be like wearing a tiara round the clock.'
'A woman of my age can face reality far better than most men.'
'I'm so sorry; I thought you were a waiter.'
'One can’t go to
pieces at the death of every foreigner. We’d all be in a
constant state of collapse whenever we opened a newspaper.'
'I am a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.’
'Don't be defeatist, dear. It's very middle class.'
'Every woman goes down the aisle with half the story hidden.'
'When I'm with her, I'm reminded of the virtues of the English.'
'Principles are like prayers; noble, of course, but awkward at a party.'
'Stop whining and find something to do.'
'Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.'
'Men notice nothing.'
'What is a weekend?'
Added Bonus: Still haven't had enough?
I say, 'Good Heavens, No.'
