do i need an intervention?

Welcome to All in the Detail… I am so glad you are here!

intervention

I have been going through my life priding myself on the fact that I never got caught up in the whole “Oh,  I collect these so I have to buy every one of these I see” craze. You know what I mean, “I collect frogs… and oh my, look - here’s a frog for sale - so I must buy it!”

Well, the other day I admitted I AM A COLLECTOR! I collect images – Images of houses, porches, kitchens, sofas, gardens. lamps… let’s just say that my computer probably doesn’t have enough memory for all the images that I have COLLECTED!

All this leads up to this sad fact:
Recently, I have been going through my computer trying to figure out if I can get this archaic thing to run ‘just a little faster than a turtle”. My thought process is this: if I delete bits and pieces of ‘used (or unused) don’t really need anymore’ text, pictures, shortcuts, etc. (as you can see I really don’t know what I am doing), it should run faster, right?

Anyway, in one of my many ‘cleaning sessions’ I ran across a file titled: Dream House – oooooooo of course I had to stop and take a closer look at that one! Well, man oh man - did I find a Hodge Podge of random images… of course some of the details in these images are obviously items I thought I would use in my Dream House design… whether it be the flooring, the lighting, the fabric, the layout, the furniture… it must have called my name at some time and I just haphazardly filed it away in a generic jpg file titled Dream House.

So here you have it – my confession and proof that yes, I am a collector… just a jumble of random images…

See if there are any details you love too.

Now the REALLY SAD PART…
there are hundreds, upon hundreds of random images just like these still on my computer

So, now you tell me… DO I NEED AN INTERVENTION?

a reading corner all your own

Welcome to All in the Detail… I am so glad you are here!

The other day I shared with you an experience I had at a client’s house and how that led me to write A Cozy Little Spot –about Reading Nooks. Well, the response was overwhelming! Thank you so much… you might not realize exactly how wonderful it is to hear from readers… we write with our hearts... put it out there on the internet for all to see… never knowing exactly the criticism, the discussions or the praise that may or may not occur. So Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all the response on that post.

Well, I guess between ‘physically stumbling’ over the topic, the loving feedback and my mind that just won’t quit on the subject… I thought I would revisit the Reading Nook a little more.

If you are an avid reader like me, all you need is a comfortable chair and a good book to actually create your own ‘Reading Corner’. While writing the post, I collected up a lot of beautiful images and just didn’t want them to go to waste… you know what I mean, file them away on the computer somewhere, maybe never get back to enjoying them or sharing them with you. Doesn’t that just sound like a waste? So, here are a few more of those great reading spots… to inspire untapped creativity, unlimited reading and uninterrupted relaxation.

time to think ooutside the box

Welcome to All in the Detail… I am so glad you are here!

asla
… well, maybe not thinking outside the box as much as thinking outside the house.  It is Spring and it is time to start focusing on the Great Outdoors and all that we can do with it to add to our living space!

The American Society of Landscape Architects recently released the results of its 2014 Residential Landscape Architecture Trends Survey.

Landscape architects who specialize in residential design across the country were asked to rate the expected popularity of a variety of residential outdoor design elements for the upcoming year.

No shocker here: The findings showed that people are looking for low-maintenance design suited for entertaining and relaxing.

Here’s a look at some of the specific outdoor living features and design elements that respondents rated as the most in-demand for 2014:

1. Lighting
